Ground staff of the Spanish airline Iberia are to benefit from an updated TETRA digital radio system for communications at their main base, Madrid’s Barajas airport. A new network based on Motorola’s Dimetra IP Compact infrastructure is being be installed by local partner Amper Sistemas.

Growing demand

Replacing a previous Motorola TETRA installation at the airport, the Dimetra IP Compact system will be able to re-use more than 1000 radios and six base stations, because the old and new TETRA systems are compatible.

Motorola Solutions explains that its improved IP-based TETRA solution provides a highly flexible and scalable architecture that supports voice and data services as well as mobile applications, including remote access to databases and image transmission. Radio communications, both indoor and outdoor, will be greatly improved for Iberia staff working in different areas of the airport.
