A contract to supply TETRA radios for police and local authorities in the German state of Lower Saxony has been won by Motorola Solutions following a tender process. Under a framework contract which will run for four years, Motorola will supply some 9700 digital two-way radios, including all accessories and support services. The order includes equipping users with MTP830 FuG and MTP850 FuG TETRA handheld terminals as well as MTM800 FuG TETRA vehicle radios. These models were specially developed in accordance with the requirements of the German authorities and organizations with roles in security and the emergency services (BOS). The radios will be fitted with a BOS port, compatible with a range of accessories which can be used to adapt them flexibly to the individual requirements of police and local authorities. ‘Intuitive operation’ “We selected Motorola because their TETRA digital radios have been proven in extensive real-world tests and meet all our criteria for a high performance technology for our police and local authorities”, commented Dr Christian Grahl, chief of police in Lower Saxony. “We were particularly impressed with the intuitive operation of the terminals and their compliance with the highest security standards.” Also included in the contract is the delivery of an integrated Terminal Management (iTM) solution from Motorola. This system will make it possible to manage the software and configurations of all the radio terminals remotely from a central location. It will ensure that software updates are performed rapidly and reliably. Lower Saxony follows several other German federal states, including Berlin, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia, and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which have already selected TETRA digital radio products from Motorola.
