HANNOVER, Germany, March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei's eLTE Solution received the "Best Integration of Future Broadband with TETRA" Award at the 2015 International TETRA Awards hosted by The TETRA and Critical Communications Association (TCCA) and TETRA. The award, one of the most authoritative and credible of its kind, was presented to Huawei in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the development and evolution of the trunking industry.
Based on 4G LTE standards, Huawei developed the wireless broadband eLTE solution to meet industry demands with a focus on catering to multimedia applications, and supporting interconnections with the TETRA system. The interconnection of narrow band data trunking enables hybrid grouping of eLTE and TETRA users and supports professional trunking functions between them including group and point-to-point (P2P) voice calls, floor preemption and release. Currently, these interconnections can be achieved in two ways - through a gateway interconnection model or system interconnection model.
In 2013, Huawei developed an LTE-based dedicated broadband trunking network for the Nanjing Municipal Government, creating the world's first eGovernment trunking network. Leveraging the Huawei eLTE solution, the Nanjing Municipal Government built on its existing TETRA system to enable extended data services, establishing a critical communications network covering the entire city and a unified information platform for all government sectors. The system enabled various operational functions including voice trunking services, visualized command and dispatch, real-time municipal data monitoring (for data such as electrical power and hydrological data), video surveillance of transportation and key locations, and mobile offices. The critical communications network and the unified information platform not only significantly improved the Nanjing Municipal Government's efficiency and collaboration between departments during critical situations, but also improved the operational efficiency of large scale public events in Nanjing such as the 2013 Asian Youth Games and 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
Mr. Richard Lambley, Consulting Editor of TETRA TODAY Magazine and a member of the judging panel for the 2015 International TETRA Awards, said, "Huawei's eLTE solution enables interconnections between LTE networks and TETRA networks by adopting a software-configured eLTE-TETRA gateway that delivers advanced services such as group and P2P voice calls, with high reliability and high capacity. Huawei's eLTE broadband trunking network, with its TETRA-based voice trunking system integration, demonstrates how a city can better equip its public safety department to cope with increasing data demands and enable more people to enjoy the widespread benefits of mobile broadband."
The TCCA is the standards organization of TETRA, the world's most successful standard for critical voice and narrowband mobile data communications. In the critical broadband data communications area, TCCA established the Critical Communications Broadband Group (CCBG) to promote the development of global mobile communications standards. In January 2013, Huawei became a member of the TCCA, and has since contributed to the convergence and evolution of TETRA professional trunking to next generation broadband trunking.
By the end of 2014, Huawei has signed 101 enterprise LTE (eLTE) network contracts (49 with governments, 19 within the transportation industry, 9 within the electric power industry, 9 within the energy industry, and 15 within the wireless Internet service providers) and deployed 53 enterprise commercial networks in more than 30 countries around the world.
