Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) plans to install a TETRA system covering Toronto’s subway lines and eight above ground sites.

The system will provide coverage for TTC’s operational area in greater Toronto, and will be the first TETRA network deployed by a transport organization in Canada.

TCC has selected Sepura to supply the infrastructure for the network. The initial contract also provides for a limited number of terminals for use during the rollout of the infrastructure, prior to a tender for the main fleet of terminals expected later in the year.

The new system will replace TTC’s analogue radio infrastructure and will maximize network availability and reliability thanks to the redundancy elements of its design. In order to enable a seamless migration from TTC’s legacy infrastructure, Sepura’s solution will also be able to provide temporary interconnection and interoperation with the existing communication systems.
