Under a new, three-year agreement, Cassidian is to support and maintain Beijing’s JustTop TETRA network. Included in the contract are services such as software maintenance, hardware repair, a help desk, on-site and emergency support, and third-party equipment support.

Serving 76?000 subscribers, JustTop is the largest digital trunked network in the Asia-Pacific region and the biggest citywide TETRA network in the world. It was put in place by Cassidian in 2003 and has been extended four times since. 

Galvin Wong, regional chief executive for secure communication for Cassidian, said: “We are proud that we have built a long-standing trustful relationship with JustTop, the operator of the Beijing Government Shared TETRA Network, since we co-operated to build this Government Shared TETRA Network 10 years ago. We have succeeded in securing the 2008 Olympic Games and multiple big social and political events in Beijing. This new contract shows that we are committed to make the network stronger, more efficient and flexible to meet the new challenges of security communication.”

• Besides the 60th National Day celebrations in 2009, the system was successfully used at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. On the day of the opening ceremony for the Games, the TETRA network successfully handled 1·6 million calls – a world record at the time.
