Sepura has won a major contract from Northamptonshire Police in the UK, for the replacement of 2?000 of the force’s TETRA terminals with the SRH3900 model.

Sepura has won a major contract from Northamptonshire Police in the UK, for the replacement of 2 000 of the force’s TETRA terminals with the SRH3900 model. The two-stage programme will begin at once and conclude in September of this year. In addition to the terminals Northants Police are also adopting Sepura’s TETRA radio programming and management tool, the Radio Manager 2. A major factor in selecting the SRH3900 was its compatibility with Sepura products in use with all the other police forces in the East Midlands region. The SRH3900 features GPS and Short Data Application support.

“The adoption of this new technology will enable efficiency savings within our force and across the East Midlands region”, said Adam Simmonds, police and crime commissioner for Northamptonshire Police. “This change increases the scope for shared support and cross-border working whilst increasing resilience for Northamptonshire.”

“This success highlights the strategic nature of our increased presence in the East Midlands and strengthens our support of the police forces in the region”, said Jonathan Hamill, regional director for UK and Ireland at Sepura. “We are fully committed to assisting Northamptonshire Police in their drive for greater efficiency, and very much look forward to working with them to ensure the smooth deployment of the new fleet of radios.”

The company has also won a contract to provide mobile radios to the South African Police Service (SAPS) throughout the Gauteng province.

The contract, secured by Altara – one of Sepura’s partners in South Africa – in conjunction with Verstay, will see Sepura deliver an estimated 2 000 SRG3900 radios to the police service over the next two years.

“We’re delighted to be able to maximise the potential of our existing infrastructure by fitting Sepura SRG3900s in our vehicles”, said Brigadier Gordon Bosman of SAPS.

“We made our choice after thorough testing, and are looking forward to enjoying the benefits over the coming years.”

Emanuele Algieri, regional director at Sepura, added: “Naturally, we’re extremely pleased to have secured a long-term partnership with SAPS after such a hard-fought tender process.

“The Gauteng province, which includes the cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane (formerly Pretoria), covers an extensive area; it has a population of over 12.3 million, and a particularly undulating topology in which the SRG3900 will excel.”
