Ansaldo STS, main contractor of the Roy Hill Iron Ore Project – Signalling and Communications Systems in Australia, has opted for a TETRA system from Selex ES. Roy Hill is leading the development of integrated iron ore mining, rail and port operations In the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Within this project, Ansaldo STS, is responsible for the integrated communication-based signalling solution for the safe and efficient management of the automated heavy-haul train operations between port and mine. The TETRA system supplied by Selex ES is a one-network solution. It offers a wide range of services including communications between the trains and the operations and control centre, the train drivers and all other railway personnel involved in daily operational and maintenance activities. The system, which includes network infrastructure, radio terminals and value-added applications, is based on the AdaptaNet solution – the Selex ES IP implementation of the ETSI TETRA standard. The entire system is based on a switchless and scalable architecture with centralized call control capability. It addresses the requirements of the Roy Hill project thanks to the flexible and modular design, high level of resilience, advanced dispatching functions for effective fleet management and comprehensive interfacing capabilities.
