ZTE Corporation announced that it struck an agreement to provide equipment for digital walkie talkie communications network of China Satcom, and the two parties will join forces to build digital trunk communications trial networks in three cities. The alliance between the two companies is expected to break the monopoly in the Chinese market by alien powers. Digital trunk was taken as next-generation communications technology of China''s walkie talkie industry, but equipment supply was dominated by Nokiaand Motorola, which raised price of a terminal to CNY 8,000 and even CNY 10,000. China would see costs of digital trunk network construction and prices of terminals drop 50 percent and 30 percent to 40 percent respectively after ZTE rolled out home-grown GOTA standard, ZTE vice president Zhao Xianming aired. The tow companies have created 10 digital trunk base stations based on the GOTA technology in Qingdao and will set up additional 30 such stations before 2008, achieving the full coverage of the city, people familiar with the matter said.
