Date: 19th November 2012 Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has invested in a complete TETRA system covering four Malaysian International airports – Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Comintel, a specialist IT and telecoms systems integrator, will implement the solution which includes an eXTRAS TETRA system from 3T Communications for each location and a total of over 1000 Sepura radio terminals with built-in GPS technology. Dato’ Abd Hamid Mohd Ali, chief operating officer at MAHB, said: “We were really impressed with the technical know-how, specialist expertise and extensive experience of all the companies involved in the solution. We are confident that from conception, installation and commissioning, to support and expansion, the solution will deliver exactly what we need and allow us to focus on running our aviation operations with complete peace-of-mind.” Lim Keng Hockat, chief operating officer at Comintel, added: “Airports are fast moving, very busy environments that provide one of the toughest tests for communications systems when it comes to dealing with noise and the complexities of ensuring consistent radio coverage in both open and closed areas. In particular, we believe that, once implemented, the new system will help MAHB to improve their customer experience even further, as well as increasing the safety of all staff.” In addition to the critical aviation activities, the MAHB system will also be used for a high number of non-aviation oriented services to ensure the smooth and safe running of the multi-site operations.
